Apple Flatbow
« on: June 28, 2017, 07:39:29 pm »
Well, I didn't catch any catfish today, but I did get some good shots of my new Apple bow. I used Badger's no set tillering method on this one and it really paid off. It's very well shot in, as my brother-in-law and I spent all day yesterday shooting arrows through it. It's quite fast and very light in the hand. Here's some info...

64" ntn
60# at 27"
heat-treated belly
ebony overlays and inlay
Beadman's brain-tanned deer hide on the handle

Oh yeah, I had to prop up my camera/phone and set a timer for the FD pics so the angle is a little funny on the second one. The first is not all the way to 27".

Thanks as always for checking it out.  :)

That's a very fine looking shooter in every way.Tiller is spot on.Nice job on the handle & tips too.I like knowing people that have back up plans for success and a good time.I quess you'd call them resourceful.

Very nice looking bow.  You don't see many Apple bows posted on here.

Real nice bow!  We were talking about applewood, crabapple and cherry, the other day.

Thanks you guys. I'd be lost in the dark without all of you. There's no better place to learn from folks who really know how to make um.

Ed, I forgot to mention that the circle strike plate is a tribute to you. Back up plans are key, but sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock and turn those...  (--) into...  :BB Thanks for everything  :)

That is a good job on a unique wood.  How do you like its performance, compared to whatever?

Oh that is a really nice bow! Awesome bend and nice handle shape!
How does apple perform in relation to some other woods? I have a dry set of apple billets so maybe I will make that my next project;-)
