Horn bow

This is my first attempt at a horn bow, after making a few antler bows I got the itch to make a horn bow.  This was definitely a learning experience for me.  It took about a month of work just to get the bow ready for sinew.  The first two pics are about a day after the first 2 layers of sinew was applied, I waited for about a week then applied 2 more layers of sinew.  I am amazed on how much reflex these bows gained in a month after the sinew was applied.   Hopefully in about 7 months I will be posting pics for the finished bow.

Beadman this bow is 38 inches tip to tip,  by the time I decide on where to put the sinew ball for nocks it will be around 35 inches nock to nock im guessing. 

Chuck I can only hope this bow turns out as good as your bows.  Tillering might be a nightmare, I'm guessing you tiller by a little scrapping and heat.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this complete. Great start. Now the hard part. I'm in the same place on my first horn bow, just put the last layer of sinew on last week.

Looking good so far! Looks like a primo set of horns.
I've only finished 2, so my experience is limited, I used more
heat than scraping for tillering. Horn and sinew sometimes have a mind of their own

The tillering with heat will be interesting. I'm going to have a lot of questions when that time comes. There seems to be plenty of guys on here with that experience.

Not so slow as me; horns arrived weeks ago but things have been so crazy in work I've barely had chance to look at them😀

Thanks Goat  the two you finished looks great, it seems like horn and sinew would be very flexible.  I have seen some horn bows on the internet that when they were strung it looks like they could very easily flip on you.

DC  with this much reflex I would guess that you would brace it like the Koreans brace theirs.  Then again maybe through the tillering process you can some how tame some of the reflex.

stuckinthemud I had these set of horns for about a year before I even messed with them.  I didn't know where to start, so finally I just decided to go for it. And for me the hardest part was cutting the top curl from the horn.

Does it have a wood core? How wide is it at the grip?

Thanks loon this bow does not have a wood core just horn and sinew. The handle is about 1 1/2 wide the limbs are about 1 3/4 wide.
