These things creep my wife out!
« on: January 18, 2017, 11:44:00 pm »
guess I need to actually finish it now and make another dozen or so of various sizes and scary maybe some pointy teeth, to put in my workshop. Just a heads up to anyone who needs to roughen up there workshop to have some solitude. Lol... this is some buckthorn I realy like the heartwood sapwood contrast. Woodcarving it's what you do while you wait for staves to dry.

Guess I better find my round tuit and finish the wood spirit on the rain fly pole😀.  Looks like a good start on the carving.  Just go where the wood takes you.  Soon 😀😀 you will be turning out your own " army"!

Stoner, very good carvings, is that soapstone?

I don't know how the carving will translate to bows, but it sure passes the time while waiting for staves to dry, and it is quite enjoyable. Less wasted wood off of the staves too ,And as I said before if I put enough of these in my workshop I might be able to keep her out of here for a few minutes so I can get some work done! Lol.
Stoner wow wonderful work! Something for me to aspire to
Hawkdancer, Zuma, Augustus, thanks for the encouragement!
Maybe after I get better at this I'll post some more "wife scarecrows" lol

These garden stones are made of Kansas Limestone. They were fenceposts in they're former life. I have a fellow who picks up broken ones and when he get's enough, ships them out. John

Stoner, should you mind posting a picture of your tool kit to work limestone? I'd love to know what you use to carve such detail into stone!

Pneumatic hammers from 1/4" piston up to 1-1/4" piston that will rattle your fillings loose. 4# Osage mallets, steel hammers 1# to 16#. Files, riflers, saws. I'm kind of a tool freak. John
