Unibond problem
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:09:09 pm »
So I went to glue up my osage bamboo r/d and I opened the unibond and it was unbelievably thick! I couldn't stir it with a stick and it all came out of the can in one clump! I assume this isn't normal.? So I glued it up with titebond 3. How do you get wood glue of the back of bamboo? Strapping it with inner tubes  was a need and I got glue all over the back

I always tape the back off before glue up

It's too late now but I cover the back with masking tape before glue-up. Bamboo has a natural wax on the back so with any luck it should come off pretty easily.

Shoot I should have thought of that! Oh well. So is the consistency of unibond supposed to be as thick as I described?

Unibond dries out over time and gets thick.

Unibond should pour easily from can. Consistency of ... hmmmm .... maple syrup?
I store it in freezer.
... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857

Don't know about your unibond but it does'nt sound right.
After taping back with masking tape[use the paint trimmers kind] I put saran wrap over limbs too before wrapping with inner tubes, because I wrap very close.Next time it'll be less work for ya.

I'm wondering if freezing solid during delivery ruined it.
