Bendy-handle Molly w/ flipped tips
« on: January 01, 2017, 06:52:43 pm »
Here's one I recently finished up...

American Beech
60" ntn
43# @ 27"
60/40 working to non-working (although the 40 may be working a little  ::))
Padauk overlays and arrow rest
Cherry bark handle wrapped w/ sinew
Toasted belly

It's been shot about 50 times and is holding a straight unbraced profile. Thanks for looking and Happy New Year!

Great job on the handle and tip overlays.  I have some Birch bark I wanna try.  I know it's a molly but I think your still a little stiff on your outers.

and by outers I mean the outer part of your working limbs.  Did I say I like that handle wrap?!

Thanks man. You're probably right about the outers. I'm still getting used to this design. Since it bends through the handle, I tried to see the tiller as a D bow with levers at the ends. I stopped when I thought I had that. Love the constructive criticism. Keep it coming.  :)

Bends too much at the handle

Agreed.

If it is not taking increased set as you shoot it in, I'd not worry much about how that handle is bending myself.  Yes, it looks a bit over worked in the handle area, ...but not much.  If anything, just sand paper tiller the outer 30% of the 60% that is working.  That may be enough to allow more of the limb to share the work going on in the handle and not lose much if any weight.

Nice work! I have been thinking about involving more cherry bark into my different crafts. It is tough stuff and it looks really cool!
