« on: December 21, 2016, 09:10:16 pm »
hey guy's I've been lurking here for a few years now,I frequent T/G and TAS,but the time has come for me to make my first self bow...I have made some bbI Bows in the past.so long story short,I decided to use local wood to New York so I harvested a Black Walnut tree.

I did this in May 2016 so soon I will be full of Questions,I really enjoy it here..thanks in advance.. Burt

Your off and running with that stave harvest, glad to have you aboard. If you've been lurking here a few years plus built some laminates I'm guessing you have a good idea how to turn those staves into bows. I look forward to seeing your work. :)
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Welcome to the addiction.  >:D That is some nice walnut. I bet there are some squirrels that are pretty upset with you over that harvest.

Where abouts in NY are you? I'm in PA about 15 minutes from the NY border.

Thanks everyone,I've been reading everything I get my hands on.I've got Ryan Gill's book,Rattlestick by Gary Davis, all 4 Bowyers bibles, I can't find much on black walnut builds,I believe Tim Backer said it is semi ring porous,so I can use the sapwood or heartwood for the back?come May it will be drying for 1 year,I look forward to this addiction.....Dakota Kid I am in Auburn,20 miles west of syracuse, home of a state prison and a bass pro shop..Burt

Very nice looking bow and arrows.  Good job on the deer.  I think you will fit in just fine with the PA crowd.
