Holmegaard (full draw page 2)
« on: March 06, 2008, 11:26:51 am »
Hi, Everyone
Well... I finally managed to finish this bow. This Holmegaard is the end result from the Holmegaard Build Along which I started in late January, and posted on the How To & Build Along forum.
Final result: 66" OAL, 65" NTN, 55# @ 27" (request for 52 - 57# @ 27"). Hickory backed osage, with Prairie rattler skins, yellow heart tip overlays, and a Strunk style grip.

Very nice work.  This is one of my favorite designs, a most intelligent use of wood in my opinion.  And to think archery had progressed this far, so long ago.  Makes you wonder just how long man had been fiddling with archery before this.  Stone points give us an idea, but maybe it was done with all-wood arrows before that.

I like your modest interpretation, it is more like the actual artifact.  A lot of people exaggerate with a greater difference in width between the working limb and the stiff outer limb.  Do your outer limbs bend at all?  Got a full draw pic?

My wife wasn't home last night, so I don't have a full draw pic yet. There is a full draw pic at the end of the build along post, however. I'd like to post more pics, but a message is telling me the uploader file is full. I'll try a bit later. I did post additional pics on the build along thread last night, if anyone wants to go there.

That is one fine looking bow adb,  you nailed the tiller perfectly on that and the detail work is great. I like the contrast of those skins on that wood. Very nice, looking forward to the full draw pics.   Keenan

I ,for one, am too lazy to go to the buildalong. So, I'll wait for the full draw. But you've got everybody drooling.  Clearly this is going to be a fine candidate for March Laminant Bow of the Month

Hi,
I have been trying for the past 2 days to post some more pics, but I keep getting a message saying the upload folder is full, and to contact an administrator.  I haven't changed anything, my pics are all down sized to 3 X 5 @ 150 res. I'm only trying to send 1 pic at a time. No problems with the pics already posted. Any of you moderator types have a suggestion?

I let the admins know about this problem as its not just you, it appears to be a mystery though ???
You can try uploading them to a photo hosting sight like Photo Bucket and then posting them.

BTW the holmie really came out nice and thanks for the build alsong.
