Curly maple end cap with brass finial filler plug. Have yet to install a spout plug because for some unknown reason I used a 1/4 inch drill bit for the spout and I do not have a fiddlepeg of that size. Will see what I can turn up for that department.
Only the spout hole was done with a power tool, all the rest was done by eyeball, saw, rasp, file, scraper and pocket knife. Even final finish and polish was done by hand. This sat in a box under the bench as a "ghost project" for 4 years. I got a call from a friend that works with providing scenes, costumes, and models for famous western artists to photograph so they can later paint them. What with that Revenant movie coming out, now all the artists want to paint mountain men and that means Jim needs all the gear he can get. He asked me for rifles, bags, and horns and I came up short one powderhorn....so, it moved back up the priority list. I also found four ruined or near ruined buffalo horns that I had once tried heating and flattening. I might be able to rescue ONE and finish it, but it will involve some black magic (epoxy/F-G) on the inside.
When this one comes back from the photo shoot in Kansas, I am gonna see if I can sell it since buffalo is not common to the historical era that I play around with.
