Kidney Stone ?
« on: August 02, 2016, 09:16:58 am »
Passed my 9th Kidney Stone Sunday night. Tired of these things. Any body know of any home remedies to help with them. I drink a ton of home made lemonade and very little pop.

I feel for you man I get stones a bit on both sides I have also had a cryo ablation on my kidney, so I also pass a lot of kidney pieces. I drink some apple cider vinegar mixed with water, not sure if it helps but lets me feel like I'm able to do something about them. I am fortunate that the only pain I get is when they are moving down my back and not the final few inches.  Good luck!
It's in my blood...

I'm sorry you've had such a painful experience.  Have you had them tested to see what they're composed of?  That might give you an idea of dietary changes you could make to reduce their frequency.

Not sure about this method but apparently there is a water tank that they submerse you in and hit the kidneys with some kind of special ultra sound vibration under water.

It looks brutal. My Brother in law has had it done a few times. He said it feels like someone kicked the crap out of him after he's done.

Huh... a subject I can contribute to.
Having dealt with stones for around 25 years (biggest was 23 mm, after lithotripsy it was like passing 1000 stones over a 2 week period) I could write pages and pages on this topic, but I'll skip straight to my top conclusions:

--> listen to your urologist, and then go see specialist. Urologist is great, kidney stone specialist is better. Get the extra blood tests, etc etc.
--> None of the home remedies worked for me. None. Not at all. But yes I still avoid teas, and drink lots of sugar free lemonade.
--> If you are not peeing every couple hours, you are not drinking enough - flush the kidneys constantly. Its a pita, but nothing compared to a stone, nothing. Drink. More. Then keep drinking. Then drink more.  And if you're a beer drinker remember that alcohol dehydrates you (which is bad for stones) so drink 1 full glass of water with every beer.
--> Calcium oxalate stones - years ago they told me "No more calcium - no milk, no cheese, etc."  Now they say that wasnt right, the problem is that when you eat foods with either calcium or oxalates, make sure you have both together so that they bind in the gut and never get to your kidney. (google that, IMO its kind of important.)

Bottom line is that they dont really know the precise cause or prevention. At least not that I can find.
So for me, I drink drink drink; avoid calcium and oxalates but when I have them I have both; drink some more; and be thankful that modern medicine can prevent the stones from killing me and can prescribe drugs.

Good luck, I feel your pain.
I should know better.

First time I had it done I asked my doc if he could do it without putting me under anesthesia. He said well, you're about to get hit by A-Rods baseball bat about 50,000 times, are you up for that without drugs?

The process is getting a lot better though - a good doc with the newest equipment and its not horrible. A lot better than the alternatives.
I should know better.

You could check this site out for herbal medicines http://www.legendsofamerica.com/na-remedy6.html#K, this particular page deals with kidney problems

I got a response on my post asking for home/herbal remedies for kidney stones. Madder root and also Yarrow tea were both recommended. I have no experience with either of them, so you might read up on them.

Fortunately I have no experience with
the stones.
What I can do is wish you luck in finding
some helpful solution/s.
It's amazing as to how sad science and
health care are in these matters.
