First Glass Point
« on: June 03, 2016, 12:25:44 pm »
Hey fellow Archers and Knappers ,

This was harder than I imagined,
I started off with a project in mind, and the point broke 3 times 😐

Soo it became ALOT smaller than I imagined, but keep in mind I don't own any knapping tools ( 😢  )
So it's alot more difficult to do with what I got here: Screwdrivers, forks, and whatever comes to hand.

I'd appreciate any feedback 😄

Thanks @Parnell , I probably won't be using this one because it's too small, but it's a good learning medium so that I don't mess up the good stuff 😊

Make yourself some told pressure flaker, bopper etc easy to do and will help with making points. Keep chipping and the will get larger and sharper.
FLINTKNAPPING IS EASY...I WAS ALWAYS TOLD I COULD BREAK AN ANVIL WITH A POWDER PUFF.

YOU CAN GET ANTLER TIPS ANYWHERE.

Also you can grind mosty any bone to a point. I like deer leg bones. cut a end off good leath. They sharpen down to a super hard point. Much harder than antler,so it lasts longer+.

Go to any electic store, lowes where ever and buy some copper ground wire, or nails get a couple sizes if you can. Cut a broom hand 8,10 inchs. Drill a hole same size as your wire. Put it in I don't glue mine. the copper where's out really quick. So you'll have to replace it.

SHAPEN TO A POINT. LEAVE A INCH OF COPPER WIRE OR NAIL STICK OUT. MAKE YOU    A COUPLE LEATHS.

^^ just finished these:

the flat screwdriver one is for notching:

these pieces of annealed copper wire were hammered into shape and i then cleaned them a little with a file. i suggest gently reshaping with a hammer for the longest lifetime. a small hammer with a small anvil is the idea setup, but i just use two hammers and i use one as the anvil.

Have a good day , and if there's anything I can do...

you can load them into a good handle and try to wear them out for me ;)

Your future quest for knapping rocks had me curious so I looked into it a bit. If your in the eastern part of Brazil you'll have more luck. Looks like most artifacts down there were made of quartz, chert, agate, quartzite, rhyolite, and opal. Good luck, let us know how you make out.
