Father and son bows from one stave
« on: March 04, 2016, 08:38:16 pm »
I finally finished a Christmas gift for son number 3.  His bow is a belly split from my deflexed recurve osage.  It pulls about 20# at his current draw of 18",  but it is tillered out to 25",  just in case he decides to grow some.  His bow is 55" long.  It is a good piece of wood.  Even though it is only about 1" wide at its widest,  I bet I could have gotten 45#  from it easy, especially since I cut its length down some for kid-size.  even at 20#,  when he manages to get it to full draw, it packs a pretty good punch. Thanks for looking.  Now off to make trade bows. . .

Fanatastic! And really like the son/father pic. Congrats!

Real nice pair of osage bows there. Your sons bow looks to fit him perfectly and its clear from the smile that he is quite happy with his new bow, have fun shooting together guys. :)

Thanks for the comments.  Loon, The tips are some African blackwood substitute for ebony.  The Stave is from Dean Marlow.  I thought he would be interested in what became of the stave he sent me a while back. It had a wormhole on one side that he was worried about, but it was a complete non issue.  Just the right amount of snake for my skill level. It was a beautiful piece of wood, and the belly split has some especially nice streaks of red that you can still see in the handle area.
