Ocean Spray burl
« on: February 06, 2016, 09:15:09 pm »
I found this Ocean Spray burl while looking for bow staves and couldn't leave it there. The knob is 3 1/2" wide. It would make a heck of a fish club or war club if I was at war with someone. It weighs 2 pounds. I've never seen an OS burl before. Hopefully it will dry without checking too much. Got no idea what to do with it.

That's pretty cool looking.  I'd try to make a war club out of it.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

You can dry it in the microwave DC .
Just zap it a minuet at a time. open the door
after every zap to let the moisture out and the wood to cool.
Hold it to your cheek untill the cool/cold is gone.
Neat find.

I think it would make a real good "Head Knocker" . Bob

Whoa whoa, is that serious Zuma? Heard of a lot of uses for a microwave but drying wood hasn't been mentioned. I found an old microwave cookbook from the 60s or so and it really opened my eyes to microwave uses

Moot point, my microwave isn't big enough. I don't want to shorten it any. OS checks so easy I would want to run a test piece first.

Tracker, take a Hole saw and cut two holes in the side of the micro-wave. I wrap staves in wet rags and bend recurves in them after about 40 seconds of heating.

It's micro-wave not radiation.

Yep, opposite end of the spectrum. Closer to radio waves.

Yeah, as long as you aren't staring into the hole or holding the wood in place with your thighs you'll be fine, lol.
