Hand drill (matience) UPDATE
« on: February 18, 2016, 12:13:48 pm »
Haven't started a fire in about 2 months using the hand drill for the coal, Got out a Mugwort spindle and a white cedar hearth board and proceeded to turn out a coal, Arms heavy and out of wind almost failed, hands still have some callouses from earlier fire drill workouts. I found a old mouse nest of mostly dried grass in my wood pile, worked pretty good for tinder bundle. Bob

Nothing better than a friction fire Bob, so liberating.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

I got a real quick coal today using a Jerusalem Artichoke drill on a cedar hearth board, Not sure if technique or combo but only  drilled into my hearth about 1/8 " and had a coal, ;D  lots of times only get 1 shot and then have to prep a new hole on a 3/8"board. :( Bob
