Thin ringed,cherry backed osage...
« on: February 17, 2008, 03:34:04 pm »
This is from the thin ringed stave I  had questioned earlier on this site.  I was encouraged to give it a try and this is what I got out of it.

It is 62" ntn,  1 3/8" @ the fades and 3/8" and the nocks.

  45# at 26" and has 1 1/4" set.

It is backed with cherry bark from 330bull.... Thanks Joe!!!

And thanks to all, for all the help I get from this site!! ;)

Just as a note of the how thin ringed it is.  I can count 19 growth rings from the fades to the top of the handle!!

Very nice Lowell,. That cherry bark is cool stuff and looks great...especially on an osage bow. 8)  I did one a few years ago and have some that Joe sent me but haven't used it yet.
Your tiller looks good. I have used quite a bit of thin ringed osage and have had good results...they do seem to take a bit more set than thicker ringed osage but not enough to worry about.     Pat

Lowell,

The tiller, bark, and craftsmanship are all so superb!  I forgot but did I send you long enough bark pieces  so you did not have to splice?  I think so because the longer the pieces, the longer the eyes.  Man oh man I'll send you as much bark as you want as long as you keep making gorgeous bows like that!

GREAT JOB!!!

Joe
