Osage limb bow
« on: November 22, 2015, 03:11:24 pm »
About a year and a half ago Cody gave me a real nice two and a half inch round Osage limb. A few months ago I started working on it and I was considering doing a sap wood backed but decided to go all hardwood and chased it down and I was left with like an inch and a quarter round crown. Little more severe than I wanted so I decide to do something I've never done and  de crowned and glued a strip of maple on. I guess you could say it's in a r/d design but I wish I would of put more reflex into it, oh well. Off the form the tips were one inch past the handle now after I get done shooting it there about a half inch before and settle after few minutes dead even. Horn tips and arrow pass. Wenge and maple built up handle. Brown and black rit dye with tung oil. 64" ttt and 45 to 50 @26. Very smooth and a pleasure to shoot. Thanks for looking

Sharp looking bow Paul. Did you taper the maple strip before it was glued on?

You are truly one of the few guys I know who can build a bow from anything. Nice job Pauly.

Nice bow, Paul. I love small diameter osage. Surprising what you can make with them. Even a 1 1/2" half round.  ;)

Thanks for the nice comments guys! Few things I want to add first I scraped all the pith out and filled it with epoxy. I was showing my daughter the post and I read it out loud to her and she was mad that I did not give her credit for taking the full draw pictures. Thanks sweetheart :-*Not bad pics for 5 year old!

Looks great Paul. Was hoping to see this one finished up soon, when I saw it last week at floor tiller stage I could see you were on to a real good bow there. I like the wood combos you used and the way you shaped that beauty. Your pictures don't quite show just how nice that bow looks in person though.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.
