I have 2 pawpaw patches I planted, both bloom each year but I've never found fruit. Any suggestions?  I was told that blow flies are the pollinators and during the bloom time to through road kill into the patches.  :-\

My granddad talked about them a good bit. I think you need a little elevation to get good fruit. The plants do Ok in my area but no fruit. got to be in foothills or mountains but not piedmont.

Pat
Not sure how long it takes to bare. There is a male
female component to them. They need lots of water.
Most I get are on the river banks and islands that are
often ten feet under. I planted mine on my wet weather
stream but they are to new to bare yet.
Road kill-blow flies? Sure why not can't hurt anything.
just don't shoot the deer early. They got noses full of
the larva.Yuck! :o
Bubby they taste great but the pits are big and makes
it difficult to woof em down elegantly. Custard like. 8)

Our property has a lot of Paw-paw trees and I'll occasionally see fruit on them in deer season.  I think the deer eat them.  My Dad has a tree in the edge of his yard and it had several on it but now its down to just one.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

There are lots of variation on this old song but this is how I remember it, kinda.

Where, oh where is dear little Danny?
Where, oh where is dear little Danny?
Where, oh where is dear little Danny?
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.

Come on girls, let's go find him,
Come on girls, let's go find him,
Come on girls, let's go find him,
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.

Pickin' up paw-paws, put 'em in your pockets,
Pickin' up paw-paws, put 'em in your pockets,
Pickin' up paw-paws, put 'em in your pockets,
Way down yonder in the paw-patch.

Where, oh where is dear old Nellie?
Where, oh where is dear old Nellie?
Where, oh where is dear old Nellie?
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.

Come on boys, let's go find her,
Come on boys, let's go find her,
Come on boys, let's go find her,
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.

Pickin' up paw-paws, put 'em in your pockets,
Pickin' up paw-paws, put 'em in your pockets,
Pickin' up paw-paws, put 'em in your pockets,
Way down yonder in the paw-patch.

Where, oh where is dear little Jimmy?
Where, oh where is dear little Jimmy?
Where, oh where is dear little Jimmy?
Way down yonder in the paw-paw patch.

Come on girls, let's go find him,

Zuma, don't know anything about eating the fruit, but the dry wood is excellent for  hearth boards and spindles for bow drills. A friend of mine finds it down along the Alleghany River. Bob

Blaise told me that he had to hang some dead chicken in his tree to get the flies in there. Got a good crop.
