anyone know what this is?

its a good 8ft tall at least

Horse weed. Good for hand drills and atlatl darts.

also cool to know that it has some uses  :) i will wait tell it has dropped its seeds and dried out a bit before harvesting it.

Yep, giant ragweed. Burn that crap.  >:D  This and the regular ragweed are what makes most folks allergic from now until frost. Nasty stuff.

We've always called it horse weed. Guess I need to check on it.

It's also known as horseweed, but so are several other weeds such as marestail.  I wasn't disagreeing with you Scott, just clarifying a bit.  Josh

Horse weed in in Mo. We used it as spears when a kid. Let them dry , pull it up and you got a spear after a little clean up.
A three strand cord is not easily broken. Ecc.4:12

Yep................a worm eats the center out of the stem and is a great fishing bait.....used it many times as a kid in the creeks of KY

We have it here and I didn't care what it was called when cutting it with a machete. It get's a lot thicker down in this swamp.
