Baby vultures
« on: June 13, 2015, 02:49:35 pm »
I found these guys in the hay loft of an old abandoned barn today.  They made a hissing sound that almost sounded like a growl.  We left them alone and got out of there before momma came back to check on them.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Those guys are almost cute.  Be glad you got out before mamma showed up. I here they like to vomit their stomach contents on intruders.  Raw rotten meat, maggots, and yuck!!

We didn't stick around long.  I don't want an angry vomit filled momma bird coming at me.

I know we think of buzzards as disgusting animals, and yes I have had them try to vomit on me, but think of life from their view. They get to eat what they like without having to catch it, and they can spend all of every hot day sailing around at high altitudes where it is cool, and they spend very little energy doing that. Theirs is a life of leisure. Don't you want to be a buzzard now?

Seen it and the smell alone will knock you out! Not for those with a weak stomach. Those are some real ugly ducklings ;D

Imagine how rotten the road sides would be without those jewels sailing around.

I shot one with my .22 mag and it made me feel absolutely horrible, still does even now and that was 10 years ago. Stupid alcohol anyway.
