"Calliope"
« on: March 23, 2015, 01:22:03 am »
Thought I'd share. I haven't been doing a lot in the way of bowmaking for the last 6 Months ,but I did manage to get one made up for a lady before Christmas. Her request was hummingbird theme ,and we took it from there. Sorry , no full draw pics. I have a short video somewhere ,but wouldn't know how to post it anyway. weather was way too crappy to get out to get a proper full draw shot . Hopefully she'll get out shooting it soon, now that the weather is breaking, and she'll send some pictures. Here's what I ended up shipping . Bamboo Backed Ipe, 46#@28" . Carved nocks. Abalone shell Hibiscus flower arrow strike. Filigree black leather over purple velvet handle. Slightly deflexed out of the handle and the tips were very slightly reflexed . The nocks weren't much bigger than an arrow  but The ipe allowed me to maintain a stiff tip for the last 6" or so.

A couple more. I'm amazed at the power from such a twig of a bow. I'm not sure the pictures relate just how delicate this little bow is. Hope you enjoy.

Wow, that's some fine detail on the tips.  Very pretty bow.

The bird on the nock is great, my first thought was that it looked like our kingfisher. Very nicely done.

Very nice.
Straight wood may make a better bow, but crooked wood makes a better bowyer

Some real inspirational carving there! Awesome. Really takes the design to a whole new level. Makes me wanna give it a try on the next one.
