Alone with one's thoughts
« on: March 12, 2015, 06:33:33 pm »
House is empty (well, except for me!) this afternoon.  I'm rasping away on a piece if ipe.

Thinking to myself, "Bud, this ipe smells sooo good!  How's come you never noticed it before?"

After few moments Myself answers, "Because you're always wearing a mask when working with that stuff!!"

myself, "oh."

... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857

Nothing better for a bow riser. Really like the weight it gives a longbow handle. I only work with it outdoors in a breeze.

Good thought self, wear that mask!

Some folks can't be in the same room with ipe they are so allergic. It doesn't bother me but I haven't used ipe in quite a few years. It does have a nice spicy smell.

just because your not alergic to wood dust doesn't mean you can get away with not wearing  protection. You are just kicking the can down the road for future health problems. A good example, the economy! :o

After a couple hours of rasping osage I'll get red puffy eyes.
When I'm building a osage bow my old lady can tell as so as she see's me.
  IPE dos'nt bother me.
