I like to seal my backs with shellac just in case. If you do any heat corrections or heat treatment with an un sealed back you risk checking. That piece was welled cured but still holds some moisture. Better to be safe than sorry I think.

Well I got one limb roughed.  Very rough haha.  I'm gonna get the other one done then I'll seal the back good and start with heat corrections.   It appears I may be able to get the alignment at the handle then just fix some deflex in one of the tips.

Looks like my stave is a belly split.  60 inches, nice little bend.  Should be a lot of fun.  😄

I would have never dreamed of trying a stave like this,  but now I'm curious how things will turn out.  It will be a few months before I can start.  Thanks again Danny!

Bad news!!!  The opposite end of the stave checked on me.  I should have sealed it up like you guys said.  The check runs about 5" deep so if I cut it off I will be working on a 57" ttt bendy handle now.  I'm pretty sure these are my only options.

Seen one like that saved at mojam. They superglued and clamped it. Then bent recurves in it and put a camel bone overlay the length of the crack then an Osage underlay.  Patrick

I cut it off pat.  I'll make a bow out of it just maybe not one for me.  I'm disappointed but I have learned a ton working on this stave and I'm confident I could make a bow from this yellar wood one of these days.

I've made some progress.  Heat treated the twist out and the limb tips are pretty close to lining up.  Might have to move one over just a bit more.  That "Floor Tillering" thread came at the right time because that's where I'm at now and I'm close to being able to put it on the tree.  Floor tiller and getting it to low brace with an even bend is the hardest part of the whole process for me.  I'll be going slow.  Really like this stave and the natural reflex in it.  Kinda hoping I don't wreck it.
