How Much Neglect Can Osage Take?

I traded for this stave about 3 years ago and for the last 2.5 years it has been "stored" in a really exposed area experiencing all the extremes Tucson, AZ has to offer. I know Bows have been made from hundred year old fence posts so I'm hoping I can still make something of this. What do you guys think?

I don't know much about osage, but that stave looks pretty sound. I would definitely make a go for it.

Some of my best are from rotten, grub and ant infested trees that have been dead for probably 10+ years. Just got to dig deep though it all. Go for it

Thanks for the feedback guys. No rot or decay on this one the biggest thing I'm worried about is low moisture content.

Wow!! I agree with the others, that's a nice piece of osage.

That looks like a good piece of osage. As long as there aren't any checks that go to deep it should be fine. I made this post a while back about how bad an osage stave can look but still be good inside.
