New Locust Bow For My Brother
« on: January 02, 2008, 11:13:29 am »
Here is a bow that I made for my brother for Christmas. Black Locust, 66" long pulls 54 at 26. This bow is a really smooth shooter and is straight after unstringing and has about 1/2 inch of reflex after resting. It's 1 5/8" wide to midlimb and tapers to 3/8 inch nocks. The overlys are the spikes from a deer that my brother killed a couple years ago near the spot where I cut this tree. I cut it along the river where we hunt near a spot that we've always called the catfish hole so that's how the bow got it's name. The handle is wrapped with braintan deer.

She came out real nice, tiller looks excellent and I like the knot hole gives her a touch of character.

Very nice Alan, I like the knot hole and looks like some real nice grain in the wood.  I'm sure your brother will apreciate it for years to come.  Keenan

Love locust and thta one looks great.  The tips are nice and slim.  Did you have to bend it much or was this stave unusually straight?

You did real good Alan, I bet your brother really liked it. For a second I thought you were using Pat B.'s background.

There is a lot to like about this bow - the nice handle work, some character, and a nice tiller. Well done!
