Recent chippings
« on: May 18, 2014, 08:35:07 pm »
Here is a few photos of the recent stuff I have been doing. The knife I made for my cousin. I used the antler for the handle from the buck he shot last year. He was real surprised when I gave it to him. He had no idea i had made him one.  >:D

Enjoy,
Tom

Way to go Tom! Wish somebody'd make me a knife. Some nice stuff there!

Flungonin the 2 black ones are Obsidian the other 3 are what I would call Agates. Here is a close up pic if anyone wants to hazard a guess at what type of Agates they are or if they have a better idea what the stone types should be called.

Looks somewhat like alibates. Pretty rock!

The more I read about the geology of the area that I am collecting from. The closer the material seems to resemble alibates. Here is a link to the geology of alibates http://www.nps.gov/alfl/naturescience/index.htm. So if I call it agatized dolomite I am probably close but it is easier just to call it agate untill I know for sure.

With all that said I am just real lucky to have an area close by on open BLM land that I can collect this type of stone.

Thank you for the kind words.

Nice work Tom.
I like your hafting method for the necklaces.
