Hickory on Hickory Reflex Deflex With Osage riser
« on: December 28, 2007, 08:09:29 pm »
I made up a couple of Hickory Backed Hickory Reflex deflex bows the other day.  I played with the handle riser from what I normally do... it is super comfortble. not a large grip at all, but fits right in there.  Here are the pics... 60# @ 28" RH arrow Rest.  Barrell tapered hickory backing.  Sap wood hickry core, Osage risers.  Glued together with bowgrip.

I will try and get a full draw picture in a few days.  I also still have to seal the bow, it is only fine sanded.  Thanks for looking.

Can't wait to see the finished pics. Very nice combo. Did you do a splash of sage on the tips as well? Danny

Very pretty riser and some fine bows in progress.  The hickory/hickory combo in a R/D ought to really perform well.

What tools did you use to shape the riser?  How do you work on the piece glued over the hickory backing, without getting into the backing?

I like gluing up more than one of these backed bows at a time, it is very efficient.   I like to have some blanks in the workshop when it is cold and you don't want to make a giant sawdust mess with a saw/sander.

I don't know anything about bowgrip but it sure looks to me like the osage on the back is gonna pop off when you start bending the bow. ???

As long as that section of the handle doesn't bend the handle backing should be sound. With its feathering at the ends, looks like they should give a little anyway.    Pat

Bowstick, I really like the look of that handle. Could you please explain, to a newbie such as myself, how you go about shaping and fitting a grip like this?
What tools do you use?

Many thanks
