57# Osage static recurve elk bow
« on: March 29, 2014, 04:05:10 pm »
I was so pleased with the design and performance of my last static recurve “elk bow” I decided to make another in its image as a backup bow for elk hunting in CO this year.  This time I made it 2’’ longer and applied a walnut stain instead of skins to camouflage the bow for hunting.  This one came in at 57# and it’s spittin arrows out fast!  I’m feeling very confident heading to CO this year with these two bows accompanying me.  Now it’s time to focus on arrows and points that will get the job done.  Man I love this stuff!

The Stats
Wood: Osage stave from Blackhawk
Overall Length: 62’’
DL: 27.5’’
DW: 57’’
String: B50 Flemish twist with serving
Silencers: Beaver Balls

Nice.  I like it as much as the first one.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!  I think I like this one better also.  The walnut stain turned out really beautiful; thanks to my woodworking friend Don.  I'm anxious to have a flight shoot competition between the two bows to see which came out faster!   >:D

Handle & shelf aren't my style but that looks like a well made elk killer there, nice curves and a good bend. Hope you get a chance at one, your bows will get the job done no doubt. Good hunting. :)
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Outstanding!  Very nice!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Great job on that one, doesn't appear to have taken any set at all.

Thanks much guys!
@Chris: I'm glad to have done your stave proud.  Tiny growth rings on that sucker.  Kind that when your almost done chasing a ring you notice a tiny spot where ya cut through it and start all over.  ;)  good practice
@Steve: I gave the limbs some reflex before I started tillering.  They set back down to straightish.  I'm sure a few hundred arrows and my long pauses at full draw will bend her some more over time (it's hard to break that habit from compound shooting).  :)
@Ron: both of these together would still be a lot lighter than my compound.  ;)
Thanks,
Rob - Wexford, PA

Another hunt worthy bow.  Nice work.  Looks like Chris got you a nice stick of osage.
