Glass Buttes Knap In , Oregon
« on: March 13, 2014, 12:22:03 pm »
Anyone going to the knap-in this year? It will be my 14th year,I think. Here's some info on the event: The knap-in has no official dates, no one is organising it, and no one is in charge. Most folks show up during the last week of march or so, whenever oregon has their spring break.  It's held outside of Burns Oregon, right on top of one of the largest obsidian deposits on earth. It's far from any town or paved road, and there are no amenities except porta-potties (we hope everyone will contribute to the cost of these). There's no water, no firewood ( cell service is good). Weather can be anything- a typical bad day will be snow and rain, high of 33, low of 15. A good day is sunny and 65, low of 30. It's a great place to collect material, learn knapping, meet people, trade. Not much formal vending going on but plenty of trades and informal stuff. I could go on all day about it, but I won't- plenty of posts on here - just do a search.
