Black Locust Sapling Bow

Hi,

this is my Sapling Competiotion Bow.

The first bow i made for this Competion was borken after teh finish :o



This here was Plan B ::)

length 160cm
width Fadeouts 40 mm to 10 at the tips
38#@28"
handle and Tipoverlays from laburnum
Finish schellac

The lower limb is to stiff but if I had corrected it this bow would have become too weak.
In addition, there are many branches O:) ::)

You had quite a challenge there. Bow turned out nice. Sometimes limb thickness and tiller profile don't seem to correlate. Looks good.

You're right about the lower limb, could have bent more in the outer limb. all things considered it's still a good looking bow from a tricky stave. Well done ;D

Yes, i did.
It was a Sapling Bow Competition from the German Bowyer Community.
Within 6 Weeks you have to build a bow from a Sapling maximum diameter 12 cm. At least 30#@28" an no Backings except linen or silk or something like that. No Bamboo, Fibrechannel or other "hard Backings" ;)

Pretty cool bow!  Considering your hinge is close to the fade, it wouldn't take much to correct it.  I doubt that you would lose more than a pound or two.  A sapling competition sounds like a cool idea!  Josh

Great! I have a BL sapling with the bark off and roughed out and I just keep looking at it and wondering if I will do something with it. I guess I will try it for sure after seeing yours  ;D
