52" Osage Bow
« on: February 20, 2014, 02:03:26 pm »
I finished up the 52" Osage bendy handle bow from the follow-a-long  http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,44744.0.html

This bow started as a thin belly split that I popped off the bottom of a stave from the big tree I cut in 2011.  It ended up being 45 lbs @ 24".  The limbs are 1 3/8" wide.  The backing is cotton rattler.  The tip overlays are from old persimmon golf club heads.  The string is 10 strands of FF/D97 with some extra strands in the loops.  I finished the bow with 6 coats of tung oil.  There is nobody here to take a full draw picture.  I'll try to get one up later today.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Thanks guys.  My photographer should be home from school in a little while.  I'll get a full draw pic up soon.  I'm happy with the skins.  They look good in person.  I showed the bow to my Dad and he asked what kind of snake it was.  He didn't know they weren't real until I handed it to him.

cool, sounds like a viable option if you are out of skins, I've seen those while waiting on my wife at the fabric store
