This is my fourth selfbow.  It's 65" NTN, 50# @ 28", from a tree I cut last January that yielded 15 or so straight "boring" staves.  I'm giving this one to my brother (he doesn't know), he is the IV of a family name and as a child we called him "Fourthy"...  he is also a butcher and I used cow horn overlays..

I will skin it after shooting in.  I've only put about 30 arrows through it so far.  It is a sweet shooter, in fact I haven't had but one arrow out of the 10 ring, only 10 yards though..

Please critique as I want to improve, not just get patted on the back. 

I did flip the tips a bit and add some reflex with dry heat, mainly because I figured I have a little set and it would end up straight...

Nice looking bow. I like the shape of the handle. Looks to be a shooter also...What type of wood???

Thanks!  It's osage, there is another type that makes bows??  >:D

Lot's of yella wood around here, and I probably have over 75 staves seasoned about a year.  I also put up some sassafras, maple, cherry, KY coffetree, ERC, and black walnut.

My "challenge" areas are fades, grip and shelf.  I have farrier's rasps, files, only used hand tools so far...  It takes me 5x as long to get the fades right as it does to chase a ring and tiller...

BUT.... I have a couple boxes arriving tomorrow from Grizzly!

Bill, I like the way the cow horn works, it's softer than antler. I hope it does what it's supposed to... 

The cane arra flew good.  I didn't shoot any long shots though, figured it wouldn't fare well under the snow...

You should come by sometime if the weather ever breaks... 

I'd like to go shoot the KTBA shoot this weekend but the wife works and I'm playing with the kids.

Nice bow Joe.  I like the flipped tips.  That's about the same amount of flip that I like to use.  The only thing that I could critique on is the handle.  There isn't anything wrong with it, just not my style.  Its just a matter of preference.   I like a small shallow handle.   It just seems to fit my hand better.  A lot of guys like a deeper handle like yours.   With your brother being a butcher I would imagine he has some big tough hands.  That handle will probably fit him perfectly.  I'm looking forward to seeing your fifth.

Great job.  Looks great. Nothing to critique from here.  Looks like a nice shooter.  I'm with Clint about the handle.  I like mine a little slimmer.  But that's nothing to do with the performance of this beauty.  Keep up the good work.

If I was being critical the I would say both mid to outer limbs could comeround some more.

Mike, it seems what little set there is, is in the inner 1/3.  When it's bending though the whole limb looks good to me. I'm canting the bow a bit in the FD shots.

It's not finished yet, so I have some wiggle room...

Clint, I'm still working on a handle design I like.  I don't like the straight thin ones, I kinda like this, and still need to knock off the edges and do final sanding.  Thanks!
