New finished osage pipe.
« on: February 07, 2014, 04:44:31 pm »
Here is a pipe that I just finished for a friend. It is finished with bees wax. I put a few grooves in the top for comfort and i patched a few places that I messed up pretty bad. Aside from that everything is looking good. I did place a grate that fits in the bottom of the bowl so that the drill hole that went too far wont burn out the bottom.

Has any one heard of any ill effects of smoking a osage pipe?  I want to make one my self, but not sure of the toxics in the wood being safe or not?

I wondered the same thing. Being the oily wood it is and great fire wood for that matter.  :o

Looks good, but ditch the grate.  He won't need it if he's smoking tobacco.

Thanks, I think that osage is fine because I've seen other pipes made of it.

Did you do anything special to season the wood?  Or was it even seasoned.  I am going to make one whether I smoke it or not will be decided later after more research.  Nice looking pipe for sure.  I am sure he will be pleased.

all that i did was keep it indoors for a long while. Its been drying since october, it was really quite dry but i would imagine that is due to our 20-30% humidity around here. We have very little humidity.
