Goldtip 3555 versus 5575
« on: February 06, 2014, 04:00:10 pm »
I shoot longbows which are 60 to 66 inches long with draw weights between 48 and 58 pounds.
The bow has an arrow shelf cut in but is not centered and the arrow is 30 inches long for a 29 inch draw.
Which arrows would work better at these weights with target points which are 125 and 150 grains, the Goldtip 3555 or 5575? And why?
Thanks

Draw length?

From past experience I can tell you the 3555 will work better with the point weight specified unless you draw over 29" you would need 5575's left full length with well over 200 gr up front.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

you don't mention your draw length
but 35-55 are going to be your best choice leave em long also and trim 1/4 inch at a time if you need to stiffen them up .
I say 1/4 because carbon stiffens up way quick when trimming.

From my experience, I'd try 35/55, full length with 125 gr heads. Also with 5 1/2" fletching, helical.

Haven't seen much a 35/55 won't shoot out of with a little tuning ,unless you are shooting some really heavy weight with a really long draw over 28.  :)

I have a couple dozen Goldtip 3555s, and they seem to shoot really well out of almost all my trad bows up to 50#. They are light, and I wouldn't hunt with them, but they're great for 3D and target shooting. I also bought a doz of the new Goldtip 1535s for my wife Linda's little 30# recurve. Haven't tried them yet, but I think they're going to work great.

If I am going to shoot carbon I stuff them with nylon cord or paracord to add weight. made my arrows go from penetrating the target 6-8" to going through it.

Can't you also buy some sort of insert for carbons, to add weight?

I think so, never tried though. I was heard from a compound shooter that he stuffed with news paper and dryer lint packed in I just had some cordage laying around one day and thought it could fill up an carbon shaft and not shift around to much.
I think wood is more fun myself though

Maintenance free, though! And dead straight, all the time. I shoot the Goldtip Traditionals with the wood grain finish, and unless you look close, you can't tell they're carbons.

Those are big positives for the carbons. do they sound as quiet as a good wooden arrow though? mine are the cheapo brand, cheapest I could find, and they make a much different noise comming off the shelf and hitting than my wooden ones.

Yup... carbons are more 'whacky'... as in they're noisier, and hit the target with more of a whack. Due to their lighter weight, I'd say. All else equal, a bit harder on your bow, too. A carbon arrow will immediately tell you if your bow has any handshock, as well.
