Mountain Maple tiller check. Update

This stave is 58" ntn and 1 1/2" at the widest.  Started with four inches of natural reflex and now has about 2 1/4".  Let me know what you guys think.  Oh yeah the left is the top.  It looks like there is a hinge at the left tip but it is a small deflexed area,  and the right has a slight reflexed tip.  Trying to get 45ish at 28".  Possible?  Right now I have it to low brace and pulling 45# @ 21"

I think you're looking real good.  I'd continue pulling it and exercising it to draw.  Tiller is looking good.  I've got a funky piece of mountain maple that Twistedlimbs gave me from when he was living in Montana.  I bet it will be an efficient bow.  It seems like fast wood.  Looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Thanks Parnell.  I'd you make one from that stave.  I haven't been able to find much on this wood other than it's not as great as vine maple,  but close.

It looks good to me Matt. Like Steve said keep pulling it to the draw length you are looking for. You shouldn't need any more wood removal unless it is still too much weight. You might try tempering the belly too. That might just help you keet the reflex you have left.

Thanks Pat.  I do have more wood removal to do.  It's at 21" at the draw weight that I want.  Should I flip the tips a little? And I will try tempering

Matt, the bow looks long enough so you shouldn't need to flip the tips but that is another way you can go. Just remember that there are trade off with each thing you do to this bow. By flipping the tips you add a little more stress to the bow which can mean more string follow.

I don't think I'd flip the tips without having done this bowwood before.  I'd just start thinning out your tips and getting it closer to what the final look will be, then just start evenly shaving down the limbs, etc.  It'll be a good bow, I hope.

Here it is at 45# @ 26" bottom limb look like it is bending a little too much.  Let me know what y'all think.  There is a little prop twist to the bow.  This one has been tough

Nice bend!!  I am fixing to start on a bow similar to that out of sugar maple.

A little prop twist at full draw is no biggie. Your tiller looks very good... nice even bending.
