Bruce, I build locust bows like it was a whitewood. I'd go at least 1 1/2" wide at the fades and maybe wider.
Locust reacts well to belly tempering too.  ;)

Lol!  I believe Blackhawk is trying to tell you in his own way, that more info is needed to answer your question.  For instance style of bow, draw weight and length and so on and so forth.  The more info you can give as to what your wanting to do, the better answer you'll get...usually.  Josh

If it has a high crown like from a small diameter tree a narrow profile bendy handle bow of 1 1/8' to 1 3/8 has worked nice for me.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

It's from a nice wide tree. Almost flat grain. I'm not sure of the style I am going for. I wanted to make another static and get the tips bent more than my first. I'm just not sure. Maybe I'll go simple. Lol

Trapping works well for me. BL is my main wood, and I've made bows both wide and narrow with very little set by trapping. Making the back about 2/3 the width of the belly is my rule of thumb, followed by as many heat treatments as you care to put the wood through.

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.
Mollegabets all day long.
Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.
