banboo glue-up advice

What's the best way to prep the surfaces when gluing a bamboo backing onto a hickory stave?  I'm using TB III glue.  I've read everything from using a coarse-cutting jigsaw blade to roughen both surfaces to sanding both sides to 220 grit.

I use the hacksaw blade and run small grooves lengthwise down both the stave and the boo.

TB glue is not a gap filler therefore it requires a smooth surface. Don't tooth or rough up the surfaces if using it. On the other hand if
you use Resorciol or Urac you need to tooth it or provide gaps in some other manner.

Forgot to mention like Dana said, I use Urac not TBII or III

Its amazing how many guys try to tell guys to tooth the surfaces when using TB2 or 3 and yet they do not use the glue. Like Dana said it is NOT a gap filling epoxy and requires smooth well mated surfaces. I have used urac in the past for my bamboo to wood glue ups but since my skills have gotten a bit better I am using TB3 more and more....easy, available and convenient
