60" osage
« on: April 13, 2013, 11:28:01 pm »
Made this one awhile back.
60" ntn, 1 1/4" @ handle to 3/4" @ nocks
one nock is 1/2", had a split out so narrowed that end.
#48@26". simple rawhide handle wrap.
Had a belly crack at one knot hole so fixed it with sinew.
Painting is taken after an Osage NA bow I found in one of my books.
I'm a little shakey when painting so not great.
It's a simple bend in the handle, not perfect but shoots OK.

Sorry, I jumped the gun a little.  It looks like a really good bow.  Great job on it.

These bend in the handle bows are really growing on me.  Consider yourself an inspiration.  That is sweet looking!

Don, that bow is wonderful.  I certainly like the paint job.  I'm afraid to attempt painting.  Good on ya!

Dang it Don, that's got a damned fine bend and looks like a NA bow for sure.....except for that peep sight in the upper limb. How long did it take to get that stave just right >:D

Another sweet bend, sir. Nice job!

Nice Don, real authentic looking native style bow there and great bend to her also. Keep posting your bows , I'm liking your style.
Hard to see the paint design in the photo, is it the circle & dot pattern from the osage bow in the encyclopedia of n/a bows & arrows?

Like this little bow a lot.  I started out making little short bows.  Then making longer ones for a long time.  I'm back to the shorter ones and I'm diggin' 'em again.  You did this one proud.

Thanks fellas.

half eye.  I guess I messed with that stave for acouple of weeks, straightening and cleaning up the bad spots.
I thought about taking out the knot holes and then decided to leave them.
This was one of thoughs stave that you scratch your head and say should I try it or pitch it.

Badly Bent.  Yes it came out of that book. The back has just dots, large one in the middle surrounded by smaller ones.
It's not an exact copy just the ruff idea.

  Don,
Nice job on that character Osage. I love the simple and (primitive) look of those bendy bows.
