Started a bendy handled HBERC- It done blowed up :(
« on: April 08, 2013, 08:56:11 pm »
I glued this up over the weekend and got it floor tillered and one nock cut in today -
It's 61" TtT
1.125" at the grip
0.5" at the tip
Thickness taper of about 0.875" at the grip to 0.5625" (this is just floor tillered right now)
I'm shooting for around #45 at 28"

Back

Belly

Side Profile

Nock, I hope this is OK...  :o

Hopefully I'll get it on the tree tomorrow  >:D

Hope that ERC holds up. Your skinny as ever. If it does, it will rip an arrow.

I hope it does too... I know this is a less than ideal design, but I had a narrow cut off piece and decided to give it whirl :) I'll wear a helmet  ;D

I trapped the back of the hickory already, do you think a more rectangular or round belly would work better?

That one looks like a screamer, so far, Mr. Duck!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

 :(

Boom...

Not even my special helper could help this bow...

I only got it to about 20" and I heard a little tick... I looked it over and couldn't see or feel a thing. I put the gizmo back on it removed some more wood, exercised it, slowly worked it back out to 20" and BOOM!!! It was already to about a 5.5" brace too... oh well, this is my first breakage, on to the next  >:D

I think this is where it started to break, there is a very small knot here. This was made with leftovers from various bows, so no real loss

I thought it was backed with hickory?

You are correct slinger.  And it was the knot in the hickory that created the calamity, not the cedar.  I was rather looking forward to seeing this work out.  It sure was purty, while it lasted.  Josh
