Hickory Longbow Finnished!!!!!!!!!
« on: April 08, 2013, 12:09:49 pm »
ahhh finnaly finnished my first Hickory longbow. it has a flat belly and the back is "D" shaped it is 65" TTT and is 10#@25". the reason it is so light and the draw length that small is because i made it as a kids bow. The finnish i put on it has a slight yellow tint to it making it look like a pale osage bow  I also made my first endles loop bow string from kite string. let me know what you think everyone. SS

heres the handle/risor

a pic of the tips

another pic of the tips.

and the full draw pic!

Is this your first bow?  I've gotta say, you win the award for most interesting nock style I've seen in awhile.  Great job on the project.  Impressive that you served the loops of your string...

thanks, it's my first succsesfull bow. i tried to leave as much material around the nocks so i could make them "fancy". the serving took ages even with a string making jig. SS

It feels great. I just can't look at a tree without seeing a bow in there somewhere. I really want to make another but I can't for awhile as I have revision. * Sigh* maybe in the summer I will crank a few out then. Thanks SS

Congrats, those lightweight kids bows can be anightmare to tiller, you just sneeze and the tiller changes.
Good job.
The nocks are a trifle eccentric but it takes a while to find your own style, I look back at my first horn nocks and they look a bit ungainly :-[.

Cheers del, tillering this bow wasn't that hard. Im thinking of adding a leather handle with a floppy arrow rest.  SS

Squirrel, that's a fine looking bow young man!  If this is for your 7 yr old cousin, the draw weight is ideal.  I can honestly say, ive never seen tips anything like those.  Well done!  Josh

Thanks.  Yes it is for my 7 yr old cousin.  The only thing I dont think would suit her is the length but im sure she will grow into it. I may hang onto it for a while just to make sure it is safe and won't blow up :-\ SS

Wow this bow is amazing.  I was shooting it and it is silent as anything.  My freind called it a poaching bow. Also no hand shock. SS
