55# privet recurve
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:54:03 am »
hi all got this tillered out the other day. its a piece of privet i cut about a month or so ago. i had it in the house where it was warm to dry it. it has turned out good.  its pulling 55# @26" there is a kink halfway down the bow so i laid the handle out there. the crown was very high on the left limb near the fades so i had some problems with the tiller. and i know it isnt perfect. this has been the most challenging stave for me so far.  i think i will leave it primitive looking.  there are still some tool marks and things but i quite like them on this bow. i may stain it though as its abit bright lol. overall im pleased how its turned out and it spits an arrow pretty fast. i will put a green jute handle wrap on when i get time to go and buy some. the bow is 59" NTN heres a few pics.

cheers jon, i forgot to say before this bow was only drawing around 40# at 26" until the recurves went in. i also toasted the belly and i could really tell the difference as it stiffened the bow up loads.

Forgot to say that I wouldn't stain it. Several coats of tru-oil would really make that wood look nice.

Looks pretty good to me.  Nice job!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Oh yeah! Real nice!! :)
