Bamboo Backed Osage..(edit..requested pics posted first page)
« on: November 26, 2012, 08:01:32 pm »
Heres a R/D BBO I glued up a month or so ago at Roys("roy from pa" on trad gang) while I was helping him with a yew selfbow. The handle is walnut and curly maple, and horn tip overlays. Specs are 67 1/2" ntn,50@28",18.6 ounces mass weight,12"long handle section but 14" of the center is stiff,1 3/8" at the fades and just over .300" at the string grooves. This ones been done for a few days and ive played with a couple different leathers for the handle, but i didnt like what i was seeing, and to cover up the handle. I might still put a wrap on it,i dont know. I couldnt do this one justice pic wise, but oh well, and the wife didnt get home till twilight and i took a couple full draw pics but there dark and fuzzy....sorry, i know the rules...ill try to get a better one in daylight tomorrow

edit....heres the rest of the pics requested

Spectacular! I bet it's a screamer. I trust you enough to not see a full draw pic... But I still want to see it.  ;D

Great looking bow Chris, looks like a screamer! I would leave the handle exposed ifn it were mine. Too pretty to cover up.

I think he is working up the courage for the full draw. Them are some scary thin tips!! ;D

Should you ever run out of arrows with this one, you could just run up and jab the target with those narrow pointy tips!

I feel certain this thing has your traditional excellent to perfect tiller, but like everyone else, ...I'd sure like to see it bent back just the same!

Very nice bow.  Those tips are narrow indeed, they certainly aren't catching much wind.

thanks guys  ;)

ill try to get em smaller next time greg...looks like i gotta make another bow to get it right ...oh darn

yeah paul...every great once in awhile ill do a glue up(natural materials only)

i wood hope by now that most folks realize how narrow you can go with tips and still have plenty of durability..im hard on my bows and they take a beating, and ive never had any problems with them...theyve been tossed across creeks, slid down hillsides, used as walking sticks with a 40 pound pack on,and once i took a spill with my pack on and fell on the bow on rocks...just some dings in me bow and me pride hurt, but no breakage
