Plains style quiver - coyote hide

I crafted a plains style quiver with a coyote pelt, some home tanned deer leather and some commercial grade cow hide for a core.  Green flannel and art sinew were used also.

The leather core was a bit too stiff and arrows fell out when I bent over.  So I asked the PA audience about this and they did not disappoint.  I have since placed a wadded piece of buck skin in the base of the quiver and the arrows behave nicely.  I also am more mindful of squatting rather than bending over when I have the quiver on.

I wanted a strike a light bag but wanted to use the coyote face.  So the bag grew in size.  It is almost a possibles bag!  Extra string, pine pitch, a knife... who knows what I will put in there. 

Over all a comfortable quiver.

Looks great brother, I'm wanting to turn a cased skinned fox into one, but not sure on the way I want to go. I want to keep the head in Org. place. Do you have  location for patterns?

Spider,  jimm Hamm has a great book that I referred to.  I think it is "north american bows, arrows and quivers.".  I also picked up some tips in the most recent issue of PA.  Oh, one more is the encyclopedia of bows arrows and quivers by Jim Hamm and Steve Alelley.  It has good details on quivers that can be found in museum collections.

Very nice work, SM. I've made a few  coyote Plains style quivers. I prefer to set it up so the the quiver faces forward even though the originals were made the way you did it. Jackcrafty(Patrick) has a great build along in the How To section. That's where I got all my ideas for working with hair on hides. He also does them the original way.
