Black locust from a 5" dia tree, sap wood removed. Probably be my go to hunting bow this fall since currently I am shooting this one with the most accuracy and it throws an arrow pretty fast. Sinew wrapped a couple pin knot areas that were on the edge of the top limb for safety. Also lifted splinters on the belly side of both tips trying to flip them up with dry heat. Glued thin narrow strips of rawhide belly side of each tip and did some sinew wraps there. Done this before and it holds up well. The specs;
-diluted leather dye and spar varnish finish-
-a little acrylic paint design on limb edges-
-rawhide handle wrap with beaver fur trim-
-pin nock top & diamond nock bottom-
-1 5/16" wide at handle, 5/8" at tips-
-53# @ 25"
This bow was with an attempt to be similar to a bow attributed to the Shawnee shown in the Encyclopedia of Native American Bows Arrows and Quivers, page #66. Artistic license exercised at my end though. Thanks for looking, I hope you like it.
