Do you have to treat it in any special way? Poles are available for building purposes. Does it need backing - what sort of design would work best?

The only one I have seen was a split stave and a bend in the handle "D" bow.

i have been told it makes excellent bows. i haven't yet made one but have a stave drying. there are a heap of different varieties. the one i got have red heartwood when cut that darkened as it dried and weighed a heap.
all you can do is try... and show us pics when you've finished
