looking for a drawknife
« on: May 16, 2012, 02:51:36 pm »
I am a newcomer to archery and bow making and I'm trying to get some tools together so I can get ready to finish my second bow and I'm needing a good draw knife.  It doesn't have to be perfect, just usable.  I don't have much to trade other than river cane if any one needs arrow shafts or anything like that.  Is so let me know about what diameter shafts you would like and I can cut some for you.  We have a ton growing on our place.

Thanks

Are you looking for a straight or curved blade knife? Any particular length?
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Not sure and not real picky.  I don't know which would work better.  I'm gonna be using it to chase rings on osage (something else we have growing on our place).  I know I'm lucky right...

I live in Moulton, TX. Which is about an hour and a half west of Houston.  Not sure about the knappables I don't know much about rock or what to look for.  Thats something else I would like to get into though.

If you are interested in knapping, you might do a little looking locally for some knappers. Sitting with someone when you are starting out is priceless. You also learn about rock and what to look for. There are several knappers on this site that are in Texas.
I will get the knives cleaned up tonight and send you a photo.
