3 piece takedown questions.
« on: May 03, 2012, 09:04:39 pm »
I'm going through my oops pile and salvaging parts. I thought I could match up some limbs and a riser to make a takedown and tip overlays. The rest will get a Viking funeral.
My question is how long do the limbs need to be ? How much bending and not bending length.
Same for riser , how long does it need to be to be useable.
Any and all advice is appreciated.

Never done one myself Jeff, but it seems that your gonna want to angle the limbs back some (deflex, sort of. and that way you wouldn't need quite as much bend length to reach draw, and relieve the pressure ridge right at the end of the riser. Perhaps off set the deflex angle by flippin the tips slightly to get back some speed.

Just one old man's opinion as to how I'd go about it.

here's a link to one that i built a while back, Bubhttp://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,24354.msg327043.html#msg327043
i also pretty much built it like halfeye suggested, slightlly deflexed the riser and flipped the tips, was a sweet shooter to, Bub

failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

Thanks Rich and Bub. I want to salvage some parts and thought I would try a takedown. Might be a good item for a bugout bag.
Bub, that is way nicer than what I do. Very nice work mister.

You may want to check out the article I wrote for PA on a 3 piece takedown about 7 or 8 years ago.  Performance was exceptional.
