This stave won't be without it's challenges, especially for me.  (I was hoping to use the Yew stave I posted on here a couple days ago but after splitting it, then next day I noticed very slight signs of checking in the heartwood...likely too wet yet, so I sealed the snot out of it and put it up for another day)

Anyway, here are a few shots of the tricky bugger I'm about to dive into...  (Besides, can't let George have all the twisted fun on here  )

VERY nice hunk of wood Lee. I love those types. Straight ones are fun once in awhile, but nastys really get me excited.

Do I foresee a center shot bow in the works here.  I have a similar candidate in the works.  I'm hoping the stiff fishing arrows won't whack the insides of the knothole.  It should be interesting to see how you work around that knot regardless.  Josh

The knot should lie just below the bottom of my handle...in the fade, hopefully that won't cause me too much heartburn???

LOL, I suppose I could if I shorten it a bit and really scratch my head hard

If you did build it that way , you would have to use 120# spined arrows to keep paradox to almost nothing . Otherwise the striking the sides would certainly be disastrous!  Josh

Remember to make it extra long so that if the weight comes in too light you can "pike" it.
