bowyer's grand slam

Turkey hunters have a grand slam as do big game hunters.  What about bowyers?  I wondered about this and thought the bucket list post  asked this very question .  Good post but not what I was thinking. 

I'm throwing this out there for potential inclusion -JMO.  I divided it up by Native American inspiration (but did not limit it to that).

N. American bowyer's slam:

• un-backed eastern woodland longbow
  un-backed eastern woodland longbow with working recurves
  unbacked bow with static recurves
  sinew or rawhide backed plains bow
  sinew backed west coast flat bow
  composite bow (horn, wood, sinew)
  cable backed bow
  stone age bow (no modern tools)
  a multi-wood laminate bow

Of course bow making is enough of a slam, so making a list like this is like asking how many bows can be balanced on the head of pin.  The answer does not matter so much as the inspiration that comes from the answer.  Besides it will likely vary for each individual.  What do ya'll think?

The Cable Backed will likely be the last on ly list as I can hardly handle tying my shoes correctly.  A Horn bow is on my agenda for this year, fingers crossed.

i think im doing alright. i know nothing of the eastern style bows.

the composite and the horn bow gonna be a doosy.

ive always wanted to make a bow out of something like a whales jaw bone or something. or backing a bow with human hair after all its made of keratin, which is the same as the outer layer of sheep horn....hmmm i think its time to skip a few hair cuts lol

I'd say the list should be.
ELB (Not victorian)
Short sinew backed Native American (Pick you own specific one)
Short unbacked primitive (Paddle bow, pyramid etc).
Mogalabet.
Neolithic bow of any wood.
One that explodes
I think the horn/sinew Asiatic bow has got to be there even tho' many of us won't get round to it.
The above must include one Yew and one Osage as I see these as the classic bow woods.
maybe any 5 (not counting the exploder, as that's the first one we make!) should earn a smiley face

Bubby,  funny you should say that.  I am currently studying on that very thing.  I'm kind scared but I can't walk away!  I am getting my materials in place and reading everything I can on the subject.

  I'm fairly close I havn't built a pattle bow or a composite bow. Put have built a couple not there.  Like BRYCE ow about a true working wood recuvre not a stactic recurve.

If you haven't picked up Adam's book on the Subject I HIGHLY recommend doing so...I've read it cover to cover 3 times and feel I haven't even started to digest all the info he has compiled in the book.

every bow ive tried to make with working curves blows up in my face so i dont even try anymore.

Cool idea, but I don't have the time. Probably why I still need my Merriam.
