About a month ago someone gave me a beginner's knapping kit. Great kit, just enough spalls for me to get a taste of the rock. There is something amazing about the sound of the rock clinking. The spalls were pretty thin and potato chip shaped so I quickly ended up with some very tiny points.
I've also been working with bottle glass. Each material is quite different from the other. Every now and then I manage to get a beautiful flake to pop off just as I saw it in my mind's eye and I try to remember what I did.
I've lost a lot when notching them.
