osage stave ideas wanted
« on: December 22, 2011, 03:17:46 am »
Hey guys, I have an osage stave that I cut down last year. Im working the sapwood off of it and around a couple knots and realized that im not quite sure what kind I want to make out of this one. I want abow thats at least 50 lbs @ 28" but not sure if I should decrown or if I can leave a rounded back. All the other osage bows I have made had flat or almost flat backs but maybe I could get away with a different design here. Its 1 1/4 " wide after taking off the sapwood. Here are some pics, let me know what you guys think..

I make all my oasge bows around 1 1/2 and ovel I should say a flat ovel not a true ovel 3/8 tips leaveing 4 inchs of the tips and handle stiff . I round everything off nice and round. cut in a shelf (center shot all my bows) You won't have any trouble getting 50#'s like this. Never have and osage bow fail like this.

That stick is saying a simple bend in the handle bow to me ;).....due to the high crown and knots from it being small diameter. I wouldn't make that a stiffhandled bow if you want 28" draw out of it. That's my two cents
