Hafted Blade

Here is that smaller blade from my other post hafted up. I used a piece of scrap oak for the handle, spruce pitch and charcoal for the mastic, and sinew with Knox glue for the binding. For the finish all I did was I burnished it with my hands and let the natural oils from my skin soak into the wood. I still got to burn my initials/identification mark into the handle and make a sheath for it. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for all the replies, means a lot coming from you guys. I’m very happy with how it turned out. I got the sheath all done for it. I will take a picture of it tomorrow when I get a chance. I’m going to give it to my parents for Christmas.

Here are a few pictures of the sheath I made for the knife. I wet formed it around the knife, let it dry, then sewed it with sinew. If you are going to wet form a leather sheath to fit a knife, make sure you wrap the handle and hafting area with cellophane wrap and tape the ends because if you don’t the wet leather will stain your knife handle.

Here is another knife I made for a friends birthday the other day. Lesion of the day: Do not try and wet form a leather sheath on a flat surface, you will snap the blade in half, lesion learned. O well, now I got 2 arrowheads out of one blade. I made a new blade and used the old hafting and hafted up the new blade to that handle, that’s the new blade in the pictures. Thanks for looking.
